KERI: An initiative to gather and conserve all types of traditional and local seeds in the state was launched recently. Activists, farmers among others joined hands to initiate the Swami Vivekanand Goa seeds conservation movement. The objective is to preserve all types of local seeds.

“Our local varieties of paddy, millets, vegetables and fruits are on the verge of extinction. Since, we have failed to protect and conserve traditional local seeds. Brinjal of Agassaim and Taleigao, banana of Moira, chilli of Khola-Canacona, lady fingers of St Estevem, water melons of Parra are gradually disappearing and hence we are launching this abhiyan,” Chandrakant Shinde said.
