G.V. Ramanjaneyulu, the executive director of Centre for Sustainable Agriculture, addresses a workshop in Patna on Tuesday. He said, “The Union government is trying to help multinational companies capture the agriculture market. The prices of seeds and fertilizers have increased by about 300 percent in the past five years, whereas the prices of agricultural products have not increased by even 25 percent.” The Convenor of GM free Bihar Movement, Pankaj Bhushan, said, “Bihar is witnessing high sale of hybrid seeds of multinational companies. Production cost is increasing at an alarming rate. This would make farming unviable.” Anil kumar Singh, a farmer said, “If the centre hands over the sector to corporate companies, tillers would starve.”
