Margao, Jun 8: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai announced plans to set up a ‘Farmers Market’ so that the farmers of Fatorda are provided with an avenue to market the produce that they grow locally in Fatorda.

Speaking after distributing paddy seeds to farmers of his constituency at a function held at Fatorda, he said that traditional farmers from Fatorda producing vegetables and fruits were being driven away in markets like Ponda citing they were outsiders.

He had taken the initiative to set up a Farmers Market at his own cost so that Fatorda farmers can market produce they have grown in Fatorda itself. Sardesai, who has been sponsoring farming allied facilities right from seeds to harvesting for the past seven years for the Fatorda farmer, stressed the urgent need to revive the dying occupation whilst also speaking of plans to convert traditional farming into organic farming, which, in turn, will be more profitable to the farming community.
