Trichy: Slowly but surely city residents are taking to organic products. This is evident from the large crowd which thronged the two-day festival and exhibition on organic farming which concluded at the Makkal Mandram on Sunday. Organic products such as millets, vegetables, greens, traditional seeds and food products prepared by using organic methods, flew off the shelves at the festival, organized by various farming communities and trading communities, including Pasumai Sigaram and Kavimani Bharathi Uzhavar Mandram.

Saying that a significant number of visitors were middle-aged people, the organisers expressed hope that people were ready to make a change towards healthier food products.

As many as 50 stalls had been set up at the festival to promote Indian herbs and to create awareness about their numerous medicinal values. Stalls selling herbal products, including cosmetics, attracted large number of women.
