Founders Day 2014

Dear friend and partner in development,

Greetings from IIRD in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.

The 13th of April is being commemorated as the Founder’s Day of IIRD. It is the birth anniversary of our late Founder, Dr. Alexander Daniel, who had spent most part of his life in the struggles alongside the rural poor. We have great pleasure to invite you to participate with us on this day in the celebrations, mostly attended by many farmers and people from all walks of life.

“I brought together the women of my village to change our farming systems, improve nutrition through kitchen gardens, conserve our biodiversity, build bunds in farms, and so on” says Kadubai – a rural woman farmer of Jambli village in Paithan Taluka of Marathwada. Many others of rural Marathwada echo the same view. All this has happened through the efforts of the poor themselves determining what they require for sustainable development with the conservation of their environment. It gives us immense pleasure to have continuously played a role in facilitating this process of transformation for the past 26 years.

As partners and well-wishers of IIRD in facilitating the development of the rural poor, the Founders day presents an opportunity to witness the transformation of the once shy and oppressed rural women to farmer activists, biodiversity conservationists, educators, skilled entrepreneurs, and active participants in development and in the local governance structures.

The past three years have seen extreme drought situations in the Marathwada region. Mr. Rajendra Singh ( ), “Waterman of India” and recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay award, will grace this occasion and guide our farmers on the ways to conserve and manage water resources in the most appropriate ways.

We earnestly look forward for your gracious presence and well-wishes for the 9th Founders Day on the 13th April at IIRD’s campus in Bidkin at 9.30 AM

With very best wishes and regards. and looking forward for your participation

Joy Daniel
