‘Genetically modified food set to become major poll issue’

LUDHIANA: The issue of controversial genetically modified (GM) food is all set to become a major poll issue in the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab. According to Umendra Dutt, executive director of non-government organisation (NGO) Kheti Virasat Mission , to create awareness and mobilise public support for anti-GM movement, several eminent scientists and experts will be visiting Punjab in the coming days.

He said political parties would be approached and asked to clear their stand on GM food and people would vote for those who were in line with GM and food safety concerns.
