With the general elections round the corner, farmers groups from across the country have asked the political parties to include income and livelihood security for farmers in their manifesto.
Farmers, experts and civil society members are taking part in a three-day 5th National Convention on National Food Security Act and Beyond in Ahmedabad.
Food policy analyst Devinder Sharma said that despite so many years of “agricultural development and green revolution”, the average monthly income of a majority of farmers is so low that they find it difficult to make ends meet.
