The State government will distribute jowar, wheat, ragi and boiled red rice at Rs 1 per kg, along with regular rice as part of ‘Anna Bhagya’ scheme to  Below Poverty Line and Antyodaya cardholders from October 2.

After the Cabinet meeting on Friday, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra told reporters that people of North Karnataka have been demanding jowar as it is their staple food, while people of some districts in South Karnataka wanted ragi and coastal Karnataka demanded boiled red rice. “The people will be given a choice to buy whatever they want from the fair price shops,” he said.
