LG launches ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ in A&N Islands: MP urges farmers to maintain soil health
Port Blair, Mar 28: The Lt. Governor, Lt. Gen A K Singh (Retd) has underlined the need to create awareness among the farmers about the benefits of various schemes launched by the Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modiji, so that the benefit of those schemes could reach directly to the farmers. This he said, while launching the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ (PMFBY), as the chief guest of the ‘Kisan Mahasammelan’ held in the Community Hall of Manglutan, South Andaman, this morning. The Member of Parliament, Bishnu Pada Ray presided over the programme. The Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, Minati Biswas, senior officers of the Administration, a large number of farmers, PRI Members attended this programme. The Lt Governor also released the Operational Guidelines of the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ to mark the launch of the scheme in A&N Islands.
Addressing the gathering, the Lt. Governor said the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ is a very good and comprehensive scheme and it is the responsibility of the Administration, especially the Agriculture Department and PRI members to organize meetings with farmers at sub-division/ village levels and apprise them of the details of the scheme so as to enable them draw maximum benefits of the scheme. He also agreed that pamphlets of the scheme need to be prepared in regional languages to facilitate farmers. The scheme will have to be monitored in all the three Districts by the Agriculture Department and PRI members so that every farmer is covered under the scheme, he said.
