Organic Mela in Thiruvananthapuram

The Organic Mela is a once in two-months event organised by the public interest group Thanal and the Organic Bazaar – an outlet run as a farmers-consumers group initiative. This time, on display and sale are very rare traditional rice varieties such as Navara, Mullankazhama, Wyanadan Thondi, Gandashala, Urunnikazhama, Kuruva, Thavalakannan, Kuttadan all from Kerala. Also for sale is a nutritious variety from Karnataka, called Burma Black, and from Tamilnadu – Mapillai Chamba and Kattuyanam,

The Mela also has a diverse choice of millets, now even called nutri-cereals. The exhibition has on sale various types of Organic food products, vegetables, and other grains, grocery, home and body care products. Also for sale will be exquisite “Zero waste” utility and craft products, from the Zero Waste Centre, made of coconut shell, cloth, bamboo, screw pine and other traditional natural fibres.
