Nagpur, Feb 15: Concoction of a traditional approach and an educated mind helped a couple to make a difference in the lives of Adivasis of Rawala, a tribal village in Amravati district, by bringing them close to their indigenous state. According to Vasant Futane (65) and his wife Karuna (57), none of the above would have been possible without their marriage in the first place.

On Valentine’s Day, the couple’s unsung story was the topic of the talk show ‘Alag Raah’ held at Chitnavis Centre on Sunday. The show was organized by Prayas and conducted by its president Avinash Savji.

Coming from a humble background, Futane opted for a degree in agriculture with an aim to improve the farming scenario in Vidarbha and help tribals. Even after finishing his education, Futane wasn’t able to draw anything fruitful out of that. So he took a decision to leave the city in 1978 and came down to the core tribal area near Amravati. “To help someone, one needs to live with them and understand where they lack,” Futane said sharing his experience with TOI.
