Bijnor, Mar 28: Organic farming seems to be catching fancy of farmers in the district.
To encourage agriculturalists to take up the new farming practice, a team comprising 12 farmers has formed a group Shubham Sarvam Jaivik Samuh to sensitize communities about methodologies involved in organic farming, aimed at producing pesticide and urea-free crops.
The group, which is registered under the Organic Farming Association of India (OFAI), focuses on the theme ‘From farm to plate, make food safe’.
The team is currently running a training centre at Govinndpur Khari village and aims to spread its campaign in entire west UP. The centre is being headed by Ran Singh Arya, a member of the Anna Hazare Core Committee. The team members have held seminars in different villages to popularize organic farming.
Dr Prakash, a group member who is a surgeon, told TOI, “First, we establish contact with farmers and then invite them to the training camp.”
