Ways to revive desi cotton highlighted at workshop

Madurai, Feb 15: Entrepreneurs, farmers and weavers from different parts of the state on Sunday joined hands to fight the spread of genetically-modified cotton and to ensure the revival of desi cotton. They were attending a two-day workshop on ‘Revival of Desi Cotton and Contemporary Khadi’, organized by Sahaja Samrudha in collaboration with Tula, Appachi Cotton, Simcodes Society and Gandhigram University.

One of the founder volunteers of Tula, an organic clothing firm, Ananthoo said that they planned to revive desi cotton and crafts such as weaving and natural dyeing through this workshop. Means to enhance the cotton value chain were also discussed at the workshop.
